RACIIT
WE ARE RACIIT

The oceans cover 70% of earth’s surface. Our country is an island which is surrounded by the wondrous Indian Ocean.Being gifted with this endowment from our mother nature it is our duty to keep it clean and protect it for the future generation. But unfortunately, each year, billions of trash and other pollutants enter the ocean. Some of the debris wash and ends up on the beaches, some sink to the bottom of the ocean bed which causes a threat to the lives of the marine creatures.

The Rotaract Club of IIT conducted a beach clean-up as the very first project for the Rotaract year 2020-21 on the 15th of June 2020 from 9 :00. a.m. to 12:00. p.m. Our board members gathered at Mount Beach for this worthy course , and a substantial positive impact was made to help reduce plastic waste from entering the oceans. We also were able to educate other people about marine pollution along the way.

Our members dedicated their time and energy to pick up a massive amount of waste. We started to clean Mount Lavinia Beach by dividing our team into two groups to upscale the efficiency. On the day of the beach clean-up, we had a specific goal set for each person which motivated us even more to do our best but with a sole goal in mind, which was to have a cleaner beach by the end of the day. We also had different colored bags for different types of waste such as plastic/polythene, paper, and glass, organic, metal, and E-waste.

By the end of the day, we collected more than 20 bags, and after that, we disposed of them in the proper garbage bins. The clean-up was a huge success thanks to our hardworking board members, and they made sure that they added value to themselves by accomplishing the set goals of the project. We hope our short stay on the beach and what we did to make it a more beautiful sight have taught a great lesson to all the beachgoers and have motivated them to keep it that way. Finally, before concluding, we would like to ask you all to treasure the beauties of this fantastic landscape.
